Each probe sends a fixed sequence with the control loop paused, so what the ball does is caused by that sequence and nothing else. Run them on a clear stretch of floor.

A single drive command, sent once, held for 1.5 s. If the ball runs straight here but juddered before, the repeat rate is the fault.

Both motors at equal power for 1.5 s, with no heading control at all. Straight and strong here means the mechanics are fine and the fault is in the control system.

Four quarter-turns on the spot. This is the move aiming depends on — if the ball does not turn cleanly here, aiming cannot work.

Steady mode — resend a held command every 500 ms instead of 10× a second
